Front Range Back Country Horsemen

The proposed new Staunton State Park located between Pine and Conifer is expected to open as the 43rd State Park in the Colorado State Parks System. The park is open to the public after a full planning process is completed and park infra- structure has been constructed. The Master Plan is the first step in that public process. Equestrians are in jeopardy of losing out on the opportunity to utilize this beautiful new park just as we did at the new Cheyenne Mountain Park. In an effort to help preserve the historic use of horses on Colorado’s public lands, The Front Range Back Country Horsemen are hosting informational pre-meetings to help equestrians work together to keep potential new trails open to horses. Come to the location nearest you to meet fellow equestrians, get informed, have light snacks & car pool to the State Park open house meetings so equestrians can be seen and heard in the planning process. Together we can save our equestrian trails.

STAUNTON STATE PARK

Q WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE PLANNING PROCESS FOR THE NEW "STAUNTON STATE PARK"?

A IF YOU HOPE TO RIDE MOUNTAIN TRAILS NEAR DENVER IN A GREAT NEW COLORADO STATE PARK TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. GET INFORMED AND GET INVOLVED NOW.

Q WHAT’S THE RUSH?

A THE PUBLIC INPUT OPEN HOUSE MEETINGS MAY 1ST & MAY 6TH ARE THE ONLY WAY WE CAN LET THE STATE PARK PLANNERS KNOW WE ARE VERY CON-CERNED THAT IT APPEARS WE MAY ONLY GET ABOUT 4 MILES OF TRAILS IN THE PARK FOR HORSES.

Q WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

A INVITE YOUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS AND ANYONE ELSE (HIKERS, BIKERS, HORSE FRIENDLY ETC.) TO JOIN YOU AT THE OPEN HOUSES WHERE THE STATE PARK PLANNERS ARE SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT.

Q CAN I REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

A YES, WE HOPE SO AS LONG AS WE ALL DO SOMETHING TO HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE…..RIGHT NOW THE MANAGERS AND PLANNERS

GENERAL CONSENSUS IS THAT MANY OF THE PARK’S AREAS MAY BE "TOO PRISTINE" TO ALLOW US TO RIDE HORSES (SIMILAR TO WHAT THEY SAID FOR THE 20-30 MILES OF NEW TRAILS AT CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN PARK WHERE HORSE USE WAS ELIMI ATED (http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/CheyenneMountain/Trails/). BIKERS AND HIKERS ARE ALLOWED HERE BUT NOT HORSES. EVERYONE NEEDS TO REMEMBER THAT THE CSP MISSION IS "TO BE LEADERS IN PROVIDING OUTDOOR RECREATION" http://parks.state.co.us/About Missionand VisionStatements/ but it does not specify giving preferential treatment to any particular user group.

Q IN ADDITION TO ATTENDING AN OPEN HOUSE AND GETTING BETTER INFORMED PRIOR TO THE OPEN HOUSE WHAT CAN I DO?

A SIGN THE PETITION AT  http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Staunton_State_Park/  IN SUPPORT OF EQUAL HORSE USE OF TRAILS AT STAUNTON STATE PARK AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY TO DO SO ALSO.ADDITIONALLY, ANY FORMAL LETTERS OF SUPPORT WOULD BE HELPFUL
